Vulnerability Description
A memory corruption vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Excel is a popular spreadsheet application. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed Excel file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a memory corruption error in Microsoft Excel that fails to properly validate macro information when loading malformed Excel files. An attacker can exploit this flaw via a specially crafted Excel file to take complete control over a vulnerable system. 

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the transferring of malformed Excel files over HTTP. No update is required to address this vulnerability.

Users are protected against this vulnerability if the Protection against Microsoft Excel Code Execution  addressed in CPAI-2008-012 has been applied.

How Can I Protect My Network?

Block Malformed Excel Files (MS07-036)

3. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
4. Install policy on all modules.
