Vulnerability Details The vulnerability is due to a memory handling error in Microsoft Excel that fails to properly validate Style record information when loading a malformed Excel file. An attacker can exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system via a specially crafted Excel file. |
Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the transferring of malformed Excel files over HTTP.
Please note that the protection offered in this advisory may cause false positives by blocking legitimate traffic. We are working on solving this issue.
This issue has been fixed on the update package from August 18, 2010.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1 product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
