Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way Microsoft Internet Explorer handles Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). CSS is a formatting method for Web pages using HTML. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a memory corruption error in Microsoft Internet Explorer that fails to properly display Web pages that contains certain CSS styles. To trigger this flaw, an attacker can create a malicious web page with a specially crafted CSS style. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system once the malicious page is loaded.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1 product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.

How Can I Protect My Network?
1. In the SmartDefense tab, click Web Intelligence > HTTP Client Protections > Microsoft Internet Explorer Vulnerabilities > Internet Explorer CSS Memory Corruption (MS09-002).
2. In the configuration pane, under Settings > Mode, check Active.
3. Install policy on all modules.
