Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of buffer size before writing to it, by the Microsoft SMB Protocol. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by constructing a specially crafted SMB message and sending it to an affected system. Successful exploitation could cause a denial of service condition and may allow execution of arbitrary code on the target system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block malformed SMB requests.

Since the protection offered in this advisory may block access to legitimate files, users are advised to use this protection as a workaround till all systems are patched.
