| Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way Microsoft Windows OpenType Compact Font Format (CFF) driver improperly parses specially crafted OpenType fonts. OpenType is a font format developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe as an extension of Apple's TrueType font format. An OpenType CFF font is an OpenType font that contains PostScript Type 1 outlines. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability via a specially crafted CFF file. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |

Vulnerability Details The vulnerability is caused when the Windows OpenType Compact Font Format (CFF) driver fails to properly validate the values read in from specially crafted OpenType fonts. A remote attacker may exploit this issue via a specially crafted OpenType font file. Successful exploitation of this issue may allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system. |
Protection Overview
This protection will detect and block malformed OpenType font files.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway/VPN-1 product to the latest IPS/SmartDefense update. For information on how to update IPS/SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
