Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to a flaw in the Discovery Service component of the affected products. The service fails to properly handle malformed packets. An attacker could exploit this issue to take complete control of a vulnerable system via a maliciously crafted packet sent to the BrightStor backup Discovery Service. Successful exploitation allows an attacker to create denial of service (cause the service to crash) condition or execute arbitrary code on an affected system.

Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block malformed messages sent to the Discovery Service.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect/Connectra product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

To configure the defense, select your product from the list below and follow the related protection steps.
