Vulnerability Description
A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Windows Media Player which is an application for Windows that supports numerous video, audio, and image formats. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed SAMI file. Microsoft Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) is designed to simplify creating captions for media playback on a PC. SAMI captions coexist with digital media as separate, simple text files. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system.

Vulnerability Details
The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft DirectShow, an integrated technology of Windows Media Player that fails to perform sufficient parsing of the parameters of SAMI files. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted SAMI file. Successful exploitation of this issue may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.
