| Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been discovered in the way GDI+ handles Enhanced Metafile (EMF) image files. EMF is an image format that can contain both vector information and bitmap information. By persuading a user to open a specially crafted EMF image file, an attacker could take complete control of an affected system. |

Vulnerability Details The vulnerability is due to a memory corruption error in GDI+ that fails to properly process malformed EMF files. A remote attacker may trigger this issue by convincing a user to open a specially crafted EMF image file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on an affected system. |
Protection Overview
By enabling this protection, SmartDefense will detect and block the transferring of malformed EMF files over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your VPN-1/InterSpect product to the latest SmartDefense update. For information on how to update SmartDefense, go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
