| Vulnerability Description Microsoft Office is a popular productivity application suite released by Microsoft Corporation. It includes a word processor, a spreadsheet application, a presentation editor, and a number of other applications and components. The Office Document files used by these applications contain a common section that stores metadata, which includes the author name, application name, date of creation and other optional information. Among other features, Microsoft Office applications allow embedding of bitmap images in the documents. |

Vulnerability Details An integer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Office. The vulnerability is due to lack of validation on the "biClrUsed" field when processing BMP header. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a malicious document. Successful exploitation could result in injection and execution of arbitrary code, within the security context of the currently logged in user. The behaviour of the target would depend on the intention of the malicious code. In case if code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally causing a denial of service condition. |
