CHECK POINT FIREWALL-1 3.0 ENTERS INTERNATIONAL ITSEC CERTIFICATION TESTING
Redwood City, Calif.--April 29, 1997--Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKPF), the leader in enterprise security software and inventor of the Stateful Inspection technology, announced today that it has submitted its newly-released Check Point TM FireWall-1TM version 3.0 for E3 level certification in the United Kingdom's Information Technology Security Evaluation and Criteria certification (ITSEC).
ITSEC E3 level certification is valid and accepted today by the governments of the U.K., Germany, and Australia. ITSEC evaluates the security features of IT products and assigns levels of certification to respective products. The ITSEC testing program enables vendors to establish that their products fulfill specific security objectives and reassure customers that vendors' claims about their products' security features are valid. E3 is the level of security demanded by the U.K. government for any Internet firewalls employed over any of its networks and is equivalent to B1 level in the U.S., according to the TCSEC Orange Book.
FireWall-1 3.0 is the first product to be submitted by Check Point Software for ITSEC testing. FireWall-1 3.0 is a comprehensive enterprise security application suite which integrates access control, authentication, encryption, network address translation, content security, auditing, and connection control. The suite is unified by Check Point's OPSEC (Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity) policy management framework which provides integration and enterprise management for FireWall-1 and many third-party network security applications.
Initial certification testing will be conducted for FireWall-1 for Windows NT. Testing on UNIX platforms supported by Check Point Software, including Solaris, SunOS, and HP-UX will begin at a later date. Check Point will contract a CLEF (Commercial Licensed Evaluation Facility) to conduct and assist in the evaluation.
"As the market share leader worldwide in network security, Check Point is committed to providing customers the highest level of assurance that our products support industry standards and meet specified levels of certification," said Deborah Triant, president and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "Achieving ITSEC E3 certification for FireWall-1 provides another means for us to meet the requirements of our customers worldwide."
ITSEC is a government-funded initiative complementing existing standards such as BS 7799 and ISO 9000. Check Point's decision to enter FireWall-1 3.0 in the certification program is consistent with the company's commitment to other similar programs around the world. FireWall-1 has already received NCSA (National Computer Security Association) in the U.S.
