Meta IP's advanced technology enhances Check Point's network security and traffic management solutions by improving control, reliability, and security in dynamic network environments.

"Our enterprise customers have told us they want the ability to manage the TCP/IP address and name space in both the Windows NT and UNIX environments," said Jared Vogt, general manager of Check Point Software's Meta IP business unit. "Meta IP's integration into the Check Point product family now provides enterprise customers with a total solution for secure enterprise networking."

"As a Meta IP partner, we look forward to the new cross-platform capabilities and streamlined interface that Meta IP 4.1 will allow us to offer our customers," said Steven Zimmerman, Managing Consultant of IR Network Solutions, Inc. "We have found that Check Point's Meta IP solution raises network efficiency for our customers while reducing the work load of their network administrators. This has boosted the ROI they're getting from their infrastructure as well as their administrative staff."

Meta IP 4.1 -- Platform Independent Service Management

Meta IP 4.1 extends its current UNIX support to include management of BIND 4.x and 8.x-compatible DNS services on HP/UX, Solaris, AIX, and Linux. The Meta IP architecture facilitates rapid development of interfaces for new platforms and allows the Meta IP Manager Service to manage services across a variety of platforms in heterogeneous networks. Meta IP 4.1 provides enhanced reporting and advanced searching capabilities that allow network administrators to easily locate objects across a global network. In addition, Meta IP 4.1 features an enhanced Java user interface that greatly improves UI performance, as well as an interface compiled specifically for the Windows platform.

Features of the new Meta IP 4.1 include:

  • Service Manager Clients (SMCs): With the addition of service manager clients, Meta IP can now extend its management control to include all standards-based DNS services, regardless of platform. Network administrators can now manage non-Meta IP DNS services on Windows NT, Sun Solaris, HP HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Linux.
  • User-to-Address Mapping Service: The UAM maps authenticated network users, machine addresses and IP addresses, improving internal control and security in active networks and providing the foundation for centralized policy management.
  • Improved Java GUI performance: Meta IP 4.1 enables true remote management with substantial performance gains for the Java-based remote management GUI.
  • New Win32 Interface: For the first time, Meta IP 4.1 includes a Win32-native interface for local management, increasing administrators' ability to control their IP address and name spaces even further.
  • Increased Searching, Auditing and Reporting Capabilities: Network administrators will have better control over their IP address and name spaces with improved auditing and reporting. Additionally Meta IP 4.1 will increase their ability to locate information with improved search capabilities.
  • Integration with Check Point FireWall-1 4.0: With Meta IP 4.1 and FireWall-1 4.0, Meta IP's innovative User-to-Address Mapping Service will provide the user name, machine address and IP Address associations to an organization's firewall, improving security, accountability and troubleshooting.
