Check Point and Broadcom Enter Strategic Partnership to Develop Multi-Gigabit Security Products

Leaders Collaborate to Secure eBusiness Traffic at Multi-Gigabit Speeds with Unprecedented Price/Performance

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and IRVINE, Calif. – October 3, 2000 – Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the leader in securing the Internet, and Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), the leading provider of integrated circuits enabling high-speed broadband communications, today announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop and deliver the next generation of wire-speed virtual private network (VPN) and firewall acceleration solutions. The combination of Check Point's Secure Virtual Network (SVN) architecture for Internet security and Broadcom's CryptoNET™ family of high-performance security processors is targeted to accelerate the ability to transact real-time secure eBusiness at rates ranging from T3 (45 Megabits per second (Mbps)) to multi-Gigabits per second.

During this calendar quarter, the companies will bring a VPN acceleration card to market based on Broadcom's state-of-the-art VPN processor technology. The new VPN-1 Accelerator Card II delivers raw performance of over 300 Megabits per second for under $1000. This in combination with Check Point's market-leading SVN systems provides the industry's highest performance security solution at unprecedented price points. As a part of their strategic partnership, Broadcom and Check Point will also collaborate to develop solutions for multi-Gigabit security performance to address high-capacity broadband connections, planned for delivery in 2001.

In a significant step forward, Broadcom and Check Point will be delivering the VPN-1 Accelerator Card II. The VPN-1 Accelerator Card II is built upon the industry's fastest cryptographic processor chip, the Broadcom BCM5805, capable of 310 Mbps 3DES IPSec performance for full duplex SONET OC-3 network speeds. The BCM5805 is a high-performance IP security processor chip that implements all of the relevant standards-compliant protocols, including IPSec, Internet Key Exchange (IKE), Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS). Targeted for availability in November 2000 at a price of $995 in the U.S., the card provides unprecedented price/performance and can be deployed in conjunction with Check Point VPN-1 systems across multiple platforms, including Solaris, Windows, and Linux-based appliances.

"We are pleased to partner with Broadcom to enable secure eBusiness over emerging high-performance broadband networks," said Asheem Chandna, Vice President of Business Development and Product Management for Check Point Software Technologies. "This best-of-breed partnership with Broadcom extends our leadership in delivering the industry's highest performance VPN solutions."

"Broadcom's objective is to provide cost-effective, wire-speed security solutions for every broadband connection worldwide," said Marty Colombatto, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Networking Business Unit. "Partnering with Check Point, the leader in VPNs and firewalls, will have an immediate positive impact on both the deployment and performance of security products for today's eBusiness applications."

The combination of Check Point's and Broadcom's market-leading technologies will allow network managers to secure increasingly high volumes of network traffic generated by the growth of eBusiness environments.
