Compaq and Rainfinity Team to Ensure Continuous Network Security

RainWall High Availability Software Included on Every Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 12, 2001 -- Rainfinity, the provider of high availability software for e-business infrastructure, joined forces with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) to announce today that Rainfinity's RainWall firewall high availability software is being bundled with the recently announced Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq, a turn-key Linux-based security solution for medium to large-sized enterprises and service providers. Through this partnership, the Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq can ensure the continuous availability of Check Point's market-leading VPN-1 /FireWall-1 network security.

With RainWall, the Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq, a "Secured By Check PointTM Appliance," maximizes VPN-1/FireWall-1 reliability for even the largest firewall implementations. The RainWall software is installed directly on each Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq in an active-standby configuration, reducing complexity, increasing reliability and minimizing hardware investment. In the event of a system failure, RainWall transparently redirects network traffic from the failed unit to the hot-standby gateway while maintaining existing connections. To create a fully distributed gateway cluster comprising multiple VPN/firewall appliances or for more demanding applications, Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq customers can quickly and easily take advantage of the RainWall Enterprise version for active-active performance boosting, dynamic load balancing and linear scalability options.

Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq

As the first security SolutionPaq to be offered by Compaq, the Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq will be available initially on Compaq ProLiant ML330 and DL320 servers, which feature pedestal and space-saving 1U rack-mount profiles, running on a security-hardened version of the Red Hat Linux operating system. These SolutionPaqs will also be the first to include VPN/firewall high availability with Rainfinity's RainWall-S software, for seamless connectivity in high volume, high security environments. Compaq Global Services will provide 7/24 telephone support and next-day service, offering optional installation and enhanced support services.

RainWall Firewall High Availability Software

RainWall dramatically improves the availability and reliability of VPN-1/FireWall-1 gateway appliances by eliminating single points of failure with patented high-availability technology while removing potential bottlenecks with dynamic load balancing capabilities. It detects hardware and software component failures within the security appliance and transparently shifts traffic to active machines in the cluster without interrupting service. RainWall comes in two flavors: RainWall Standard (RainWall-S), bundled with the Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq, is a two-node, hot-standby version providing high availability; and RainWall Enterprise (RainWall-E) is a fully active/active clustered version providing high availability, load balancing and linear scalability.

Availability and Pricing

The Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq with RainWall-S pre-loaded may be ordered now, and deliveries will begin in May. Registering the software and receiving a permanent license key from Rainfinity will activate the two-node, active-standby RainWall-S solution. In addition, customers can purchase a license key for RainWall-E, the dynamic active/active, load balancing, linearly scalable enterprise edition.
