Record-Breaking VPN/Firewall Cost/Performance Achieved by Check Point Software
Check Point Next Generation delivers 200 Mbps with 100,000 connections on a $400 open hardware platform REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 30, 2001 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ:CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today published new performance results of running VPN-1/FireWall-1 on open, low-cost PCs. Topping the results is groundbreaking cost performance of 200 megabits per second on a $400 open PC/server. The configuration used in this benchmark is running Check Point's latest software - the VPN-1/FireWall-1 NG product suite on a standard PC equipped with an Intel Celeron processor and the Red Hat Linux operating system, version 2.2. The system was tested running 100,000 concurrent connections and is capable of 3,000 new connections per second. At this performance level, a low-cost server can support the most demanding T3 speeds for wire-speed VPN. Check Point Software's open architecture for Internet security today enables speeds of nearly 2 gigabits per second, with multiple vendors currently working on solutions that scale in price and performance to achieve over 10 gigabits per second. "These test results show the superiority of Check Point's open architecture and its ability to deliver the best performance and cost/performance in the industry," said Carol Stone, vice president of worldwide marketing, Check Point Software Technologies. "Using our new Check Point Next Generation (NG) performance technology, our customers have Internet security solutions that can meet their most demanding security, performance and cost requirements." "Check Point solutions are available for platforms running Microsoft Windows NT/Windows 2000, the Sun Solaris Operating Environment, IBM AIX, HP-UX and the Red Hat® Linux operating system as well as dedicated turnkey appliances from Nokia, Compaq, Intrusion.com, Alcatel, Pyramid Computer Systems, and others. Each platform offers a range of price and performance points. To further its advances in performance and price/performance, Check Point recently introduced its Next Generation performance technology designed to deliver multi-gigabit, scalable performance. About
