Bellcore's New Firewall Security Monitoring System Offers Added Protection for Commercial Enterprises

Morristown, NJ —

Bellcore, a leading provider of communications software, engineering and consulting services, today announced a commercial version of FireWatch™, a network security monitoring system. The FireWatch system is a software solution that assists system and firewall administrators in the verification of firewall configurations and in the analysis of firewall traffic.

FireWatch has been designed to work with the market-leading network security software, Check Point™ FireWall-1™, from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKPF), which provides secure enterprise connectivity to businesses and organizations worldwide. FireWatch extracts information on network traffic logged by FireWall-1 and enables network administrators to send this information to a database or create a detailed, formatted report. By adding Bellcore's FireWatch system to their FireWall-1 network security solution, firewall administrators can analyze and report on network traffic, including potential hacker activity, network problems, and inappropriate access to external web sites by corporate users.

Firewalls are an effective and efficient way to control external access into, and internal access out of corporate networks. Commercial enterprises connected to the Internet rely on firewall technology to ensure that proprietary network access is secure.

"When properly configured and administered, firewalls are an effective and efficient mechanism for controlling data traffic. However, firewall configurations must be customized for each site, and even the best firewall administrators can make mistakes when changing or updating firewall configurations," said Milton Anderson, Bellcore's director of Security Software Development. "FireWatch not only verifies new and existing firewall configurations, it allows firewall administrators to report on the traffic and ensure that the firewalls are secure."

"FireWatch complements Check Point's market-leading FireWall-1 network security software by aiding in the analysis of firewall traffic," said Deborah Triant, President and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "With Bellcore's FireWatch system, network administrators can easily create detailed reports for all incoming and outgoing network traffic, enabling them to pinpoint problems quickly and easily, and to respond rapidly to any potential problems they uncover."

FireWatch currently runs on a Sun workstation. It is available for the Solaris 2.4 and Sun OS 4.1.3 platforms.
