Funk Software To Be Charter Member of Check Point OPSEC Alliance

Funk Software's Steel-Belted Radius centralizes authentication of all users connecting to a LAN through Check PointTM FireWall-1TM; significantly eases administrative tasks associated with managing remote users

CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 21, 1997 -- Funk Software, the developer of Steel-Belted Radius - the first RADIUS server to run in both NetWare and Windows NT environments - today announced its charter membership in the Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity (OPSEC) Alliance established by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. to provide open, enterprise-wide security solutions.

The OPSEC Alliance was established by Check Point to guarantee interoperability at the policy level between best-of-class, leading-edge security products.

Funk Software's membership in the OPSEC Alliance is based on the compatibility between Steel-Belted Radius - their powerful software that provides centralized authentication of dial-in users - and Check Point's FireWall-1 network security solution. Steel-Belted Radius can be used to authenticate all remote users who are connecting to a LAN through Check Point FireWall-1, significantly easing the administrative burden associated with managing large numbers of dial-in users.

Steel-Belted Radius is a complete implementation of Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) - the industry standard for centralizing the authentication, authorization, and accounting of dial-in users. FireWall-1, which provides for RADIUS-compliant authentication plug-ins via the OPSEC framework, requests authentication information from Steel-Belted Radius when a user tries to access the LAN.

"We welcome Funk Software as a charter member of the OPSEC Alliance," said Asheem Chandna, director of business development at Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "Defining user authentication via Steel-Belted Radius in an OPSEC enterprise security policy provides customers with a solution that both greatly enhances the security of their networks and significantly eases the administrative burden associated with managing large numbers of remote users."

"The alliance between Funk Software and Check Point is a natural," said Cimarron Boozer, vice president of product marketing at Funk Software. "Steel-Belted Radius has made authenticating large numbers of remote users incredibly easy; the FireWall-1 has always been a top-notch firewall. With this alliance, the most secure access to the LAN just became the easiest to administer."

Funk Software's Steel-Belted Radius lets network managers centralize the authentication, authorization, and accounting of all remote users seeking access to an enterprise through a firewall , remote access server, or router - greatly reducing their administrative burden and enhancing the security on their networks. With Steel-Belted Radius, network managers can use the NetWare or Windows NT security information they've already built up to authenticate dial-in users.

Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Funk Software is a key developer of remote access and LAN-based communications software. WanderLink lets an existing NetWare file server act as a powerful, highly secure remote access gateway to the LAN. Proxy remote control software lets help desk personnel and network managers fully view and operate PCs on the network from their own desktops. WanderLink, Proxy, and Steel-Belted Radius are in use at numerous Fortune 500 corporations and organizations, as well as multinational organizations worldwide.
