Despite significant investments in information security, organizations continue to be afflicted by cyberincidents. We believe a significant contributor to this condition is the relative lack of attention paid to securing internal networks and systems. This paper will explore numerous facets of that proposition, including: 1)observations on why addressing internal security is rapidly becoming a necessity; 2) enumeration of the various challenges that internal security entails; and 3) identification of the characteristics of an ideal solution.
