Three Free Ways to Fight Spyware

New spyware is released everyday. If you or another member of your security team comes across what seems to be previously undetected spyware, you can report it to the following free professional resources for further investigation.

StopBadware.org
The nonprofit consortium StopBadware.org will take technical reports of spyware and malware online. Once it has enough data, its researchers will analyze the most-offensive applications, eventually spotting trends and patterns, leading to quicker reports of confirmed malware.

U.S. Federal Trade Commission
The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has an online complaint form where you can report incidents of spyware. While the FTC does not resolve individual spyware complaints, each report helps the agency investigate fraud and can lead to law enforcement action. In addition, the FTC enters Internet-related complaints into a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies worldwide.

Check Point Software
Check Point Software will also take your submission of incidents of missed spyware detection. Simply email Check Point’s Security Team to begin the analysis process. To ensure that your missed-detection report is processed properly, please include the following information in your email:
  • Name of spyware/malware
  • Download location (URL if known)
  • Name
  • Email address
In addition, you can submit spyware sample files to the Check Point Security Team for analysis. Send the malicious file in a password-protected zip archive. Set the zip archive password to “infected.”

The Security Team will respond to your submission, as appropriate, and may contact you for more information or to offer feedback. Submitting suspected spyware/malware samples helps Check Point protect enterprises that use solutions such as Check Point Endpoint Security.

Check Point Endpoint Security detects, quarantines, and removes Trojan horses, keystroke loggers, and other undesirable software from enterprise PCs. It is continuously updated by the SmartDefense Anti-Spyware Service, which automatically provides updates to keep anti-spyware defenses ahead of today's ever-evolving spyware threat landscape.
